Frequently asked questions
If you plan to buy a SWI product or perform maintenance, there are several questions that can arise. Below we offer some of the most common questions.
Buying a SWI
Where is the SWI frame manufactured?
All the SWI frames are entirely engineered in Switzerland and manufactured in Italy.
Does the frame have an individual identification code?
Certainly, but not only that. There is also a microchip with all identification details of the bicycle and its owner, which is applied inside the frame tubes and is not detectable by the scanners of any ill-intentioned individuals.
How many sizes are made?
We produced 7 sizes of frames and ranges from 48 to 60.
Which is the right size for me?
Before putting your frame into production, we need to do the biomechanical test through our Bike Fitting laboratory.
Once your measurements are fixed, we can establish your precise size.
Before the bicycle is delivered, a Swi technician will carry out the final calibrations.
Is it possible to have a custom frame for each size?
As mentioned above, it is possible to make an integrated monocoque frame in a custom size on request. Considering the cost of a single mould, the price will obviously be higher.
Is it possible to have a frame with customized colour and graphic design?
The frame is produced in matt black color. Painting or custom graphics are possible based on customer requests, with extra payment.
Can I choose the components to assemble on the bicycle?
We have assembled our bicycles with the best components currently on the market and based on the mechanical and structural characteristics of our frame. However, we reserve the right to accept any customer requests only if compatible with the quality of our product.
What components are assembled on the bicycle?
Only the best for technology, brand and category available on the market.
What users is the Swi Road frame designed for or what use is it intended for?
The frame has been designed with mechanical and structural features that offer great comfort and optimum performance at the same time, a very high capacity to absorb and release the passive energy caused by ground reaction force when racing and a longitudinal and torsional rigidity that can convert the power supplied by the athlete into maximum propulsion.
Therefore, it can be used by both amateur and professional ciclysts.
Where can I buy a bicycle of SWI?
The bicycle can only be ordered directly from SWI.
You will of course have the opportunity to see it first and try it on the road by requesting it on our website.
You will first be invited to our office to perform 3D Dynamic Fitting to establish the exact size of your bicycle.
How is the Swi trial organized?
The request must be made on our website. You will be contacted to organize the meeting at our office or in a more convenient location for you. A representative of ours will accompany you, after having submitted you to the static analysis and adjusted the bicycle with your specifications, in a road test.
It is advisable to let us have your measurements in advance so as to prepare the bicycle according to your specifications.
Is there any financing form for the purchase of a Swi?
Yes, through our Swi Finance service.
What are its strengths and weaknesses?
If by weaknesses you mean manufacturing faults, of course, there are none. Our quality control is very strict and every detail has been professionally taken care of.
Its strengths are undoubtedly many and these are easily identifiable after reading all technical features of the bicycle on our website.
Do I have to register my Swi?
No, you don’t. Your bicycle registration is automatically completed on delivery.
Where can I find the serial number of my Swi?
The serial number is clearly marked under the bottom bracket and cannot be deleted. It has also been stored in the microchip located inside the frame together with all other information about the bicycle.
What are the payment terms for an SWI bicycle?
SWI bicycles are sold only by order. The waiting time for delivery is 60 days from receipt of the advance payment of 50% of the official sale price indicated on our site.
The remaining 50% must be paid on our request before delivery.
How can I contact SWI?
You can send us a message through our contact page on our website.
Caring for your SWI
How can I take care of my SWI bicycle?
Care and maintenance involves the classic washing of the bicycle and all its components, the greasing of the chain, the derailleurs and all the rotating parts, the adjustment of the gearbox, the control and eventual change of the tires, the change of the brake pads or the simple replacement of the handlebar grip.
Servicing your SWI
Is it possible to repaint a SWI bicycle?
Certainly, but the repainting should be carried out by us in order to keep active the lifetime warranty of the frame.
How often should I perform the SWI bike review?
To ensure that the efficiency of your bicycle is always optimal, we recommend to contact our service center periodically to have the bicycle subjected to a professional overhaul. It is recommended to have your bicycle revised approximately every year and according to the frequency of its use.
What jobs are performed with the revision of an SWI bike?
The overhaul is a recommended annual intervention for all bikes and consists in the disassembly and possible replacement of all the bicycle bearings (wheels, pedals, steering), the change of worn components such as chain, saddle, dropouts, screws, etc. , control and possible replacement of electronic cables and hydraulic hoses, accurate control of the frame and possible replacement, repair and painting.
How long does it take to perform the review?
This depends on the amount of work, the repairs and the replacements. For a normal revision, our mobile mechanical workshop needs about 4 hours, in the most complicated cases even the whole day.
How can I replace a lost SWI guarantee card?
Our warranty certificates show exactly the data contained in a device applied inside the frame tubes, inside which all the personal data of the bicycle and its owner are stored. Only we of SWI can detect the content of the microchip and based on the reading of these data, we can re-issue a copy of the guarantee certificate.
How can I change the name on the guarantee card?
The name of the original purchaser cannot be changed under any circumstances.
What is the difference between revision and maintenance of a SWI?
The difference consists in the degree of interventions on the frame and on the components of the bicycle and their periodicity.
Maintenance is considered an ordinary intervention, which should be taken care of by every cyclist, with the aim of always keeping the functionality of the bicycle efficient.
It includes the classic washing and greasing of the chain, the adjustment of the gearbox, the control and eventual change of the tires, the change of the brake pads or the simple replacement of the grip of the handlebar.
The revision is more complex and is to be considered extraordinary and consists in the disassembly and possible replacement of all the bearings of the bicycle (wheels, pedals, steering), the change of worn components such as chain, saddle, dropouts, screws, etc., control and possible replacement of electronic cables and hydraulic hoses, accurate control of the frame and possible replacement, repair and painting.
Where can I have my SWI serviced?
We recommend reviewing your SWI bicycle annually.
With the SWI Experience Program, which is free the first year and is included in the purchase of the bicycle, we offer all customers an assistance service at our office or through our authorized workshops.
Characteristics of the SWI bicycle frame
What is the main feature of the Swi frame?
The Swi frame is hand made with manic attention to quality. In addition to this essential feature, it has also the following qualities:
- it is the first monocoque frame on the market with integrated moulding, i.e. it is forged in one piece (front triangle and rear axle fitting closed on the top by the dropout housings);
- the “Thin Ply” Technology used to make the carbon fibre laminate makes it possible to reduce the weight by 30% without affecting the mechanical and structural properties;
- finally, it is the first monocoque in the world with “custom fit” configuration, that is, it can be made on request with different geometries based on the customer’s size.
How much is the weight of the SWI Road bicycle frame?
The weight of the Swi Road frame varies between 650 and 750 grams depending on the sizes.
What type of carbon fibre is used for manufacturing the Swi Road frames?
Swi carbon frames are made using an UD (unidirectional) 18-layer laminate.
Unlike common carbon fibre products that use woven fibers (with the classic appearance of a cross-ply fabric), UD carbon is literally made of non-woven continuous filaments arranged next to each other and in only one direction.
What does integrated monocoque mean?
It means that the frame is integrally built inside the mould, i.e. front triangle (head tube, top tube, down tube, seat tube and bottom bracket) with the rear axle fitting (seatstays and chainstays) closed on the top by the fork housings.
Nowadays, conventional monocoque frames have only the front triangle moulded as a monocoque while the rear axle fitting is glued later.
What does UFS stand for?
It stands for “Unishell Frame System”, that is a unishell frame, made exactely like an egg. The advantage of the UFS frame is that it doesn’t have jointed or glued parts and therefore the carbon fibers do not have interruptions.
What are the advantages of an UFS frame compared to a conventional one?
It is structurally more homogeneous and therefore more progressive and comfortable; the torsion is distributed along its whole length, thus making it mechanically impeccable.
Is the frame preset for the electronic gearbox?
The frame is designed exclusively for the electronic gearshift system and disc brakes.
Is the cable routing internal?
The routings of cables are completely internal.
