MONOCOQUE UNIFIED SHELL
The AEQUUS utilizes a unique, patented, full monocoque construction process, meaning the finished frame is a single, unified carbon shell with no bonded joints. Unlike most carbon frames which are mass produced in Asia by bonding multiple carbon pieces, the AEQUUS is manufactured in northern Italy as a single unit within a single mold to create a seamless frame which is lighter, stiffer, more durable, and more precisely aligned than is possible with bonding.
NTPT™ CARBON TEXTILE
The AEQUUS is constructed using high-performance carbon textiles from the Switzerland-based composites supplier North Thin Ply Technology (NTPT™). NTPT™ textiles have an exceptionally dense weave of carbon fibers to produce carbon composites with stiffness-to-weight ratios much higher than typically used in bicycle manufacturing. SWI is the only bicycle manufacturer in the world utilizing NTPT™ high-performance carbon textiles.
The core of the unified monocoque carbon “shell” is comprised of up to 22 internal layers of uni-directional (UD) fibers to provide the frame extraordinary stiffness at very low weight, while the outer layer is a 3K carbon weave arranged in a herringbone pattern which gives the frame additional durability and an unmistakable aesthetic.
The result of SWI’s construction process and material usage is a high-performance, World Tour level bike of both exceptional lightness and exceptional stiffness. The monocoque frame’s ability to redirect lateral pedalling forces into forward propulsion gives it a unique, lively racing feel. And yet it is very comfortable thanks to the carefully engineered vertical compliance of the seatpost and rear triangle.
